Purified Drinking Water Project for Thar Desert, Pakistan
Project Overview
Gulzar Foundation International (GFI) has launched a humanitarian initiative to provide purified drinking water to vulnerable communities living in the Thar Desert region of Pakistan. This remote border area is home to more than 10,000 families, the majority of whom belong to the Hindu minority community. These families face severe challenges in accessing safe, clean drinking water.
The Thar region is one of the most underdeveloped and water-scarce areas of Pakistan. Due to harsh desert conditions, prolonged droughts, and inadequate infrastructure, many families rely on contaminated water sources that pose serious health risks, particularly to children, women, and the elderly. Waterborne diseases, malnutrition, and poor sanitation remain common concerns throughout the region.
Despite ongoing efforts by various stakeholders, access to safe drinking water remains extremely limited. Many villages are located far from reliable water sources, forcing residents to travel long distances to collect water that is often unsafe for human consumption.
Project Goal
The primary goal of this project is to provide sustainable access to purified drinking water for underserved communities in the Thar Desert. Through this initiative, Gulzar Foundation International aims to improve public health, reduce waterborne diseases, and enhance the quality of life for thousands of families.
Project Objectives
- Provide purified and safe drinking water to more than 10,000 families living in the Thar Desert region.
- Install water purification systems in strategic locations to serve multiple villages.
- Develop reliable water distribution points for remote communities.
- Promote health and hygiene awareness related to safe water consumption.
- Reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases among children and vulnerable populations.
- Create a sustainable and community-supported water management program.
Expected Impact
This project will directly benefit thousands of families by providing access to clean, safe drinking water. Improved water quality will lead to better health outcomes, lower medical expenses, increased school attendance among children, and an overall improvement in living conditions. The project will also promote dignity, equality, and humanitarian support for marginalized communities living in one of Pakistan’s most challenging environments.
